About Us

Company History / Background

Mutare Dry Port traces its origins to 1931, when Green Motor Ltd was established as a transport services business serving the Nyanga area of Zimbabwe. Operating under the banner of a country where landlocked commerce depended entirely on overland and rail connections to coastal ports, the company quickly grew its footprint in freight and logistics.

In 1952, the business was formalised and renamed Green Motor Services (Pvt) Ltd (GMS), expanding its service offering to include transport operations, customs clearance, and freight forwarding. Over the following decades, GMS built a reputation for reliability and compliance along Zimbabwe's key trade corridors.

A significant milestone came in 1982, when the company was licensed by Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) as a container depot operator — one of the earliest such licences issued in the country. This designation formalised the company's role as a critical node in the national logistics chain, enabling it to receive, store, handle, and process containerised cargo under customs authority.

In 2010, reflecting both the evolution of the business and the growing importance of inland port infrastructure to Zimbabwe's trade competitiveness, the company rebranded as Mutare Dry Port — embracing the internationally recognised dry port concept and positioning itself as Zimbabwe's primary inland logistics gateway on the Beira Corridor.

Today, Mutare Dry Port operates as a fully integrated, one-stop dry port facility at 2/4 Cardiff Road, Mutare — just seven kilometres from Forbes Border Post and directly connected to the Port of Beira by rail and road. The company continues to operate under the Green Motor Services (Pvt) Ltd entity, trading as Mutare Dry Port.

Company Overview

Green Motor Services (Pvt) Ltd, trading as Mutare Dry Port, is Zimbabwe's leading inland logistics gateway and one of the country's dry port with full container handling and storage facilities serviced by both rail and road from the Port of Beira in Mozambique.

Strategically located at the heart of the Beira Corridor — one of Southern Africa's most important trade arteries — Mutare Dry Port functions as a genuine one-stop facility for importers, exporters, freight forwarders, transporters, and manufacturers operating in Zimbabwe and the wider SADC region. Rather than engaging multiple service providers at different locations, clients access customs clearance, freight forwarding, container handling, bonded and general warehousing, dry port operations, transport coordination, and a managed Truck Inn from a single, secure, and professionally operated facility.

The Beira Corridor connects Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to global markets via the Port of Beira and the Indian Ocean. As Zimbabwe's gateway city to Mozambique, Mutare sits at the commercial intersection of this corridor — making our facility's location a tangible and recurring competitive advantage for every client we serve. Transit times are compressed, logistics costs are reduced, and cargo visibility is maintained throughout the supply chain.

Our operations are underpinned by a team of highly trained professionals with expertise across customs procedures, cargo management, warehousing, transport coordination, and regional trade facilitation. We understand the complexity of cross-border trade and are committed to delivering practical, compliant, and cost-effective solutions tailored to each client's specific business requirements.

Mutare Dry Port handles cargo across all major commodity classes — including minerals, agricultural produce, fuel, fertilisers, textiles, machinery, heavy equipment, tobacco, cotton, and humanitarian relief goods — with the professionalism, accountability, and operational capacity that modern trade demands.
